Course Descriptions

Heartsaver AED 0100

The Heartsaver AED Course teaches CPR, AED use, use of barrier devices (IE: Pocket Mask) and relief of chocking in adults and children. It is intended for those who have a duty to respond to cardiac emergency because of job responsibilities or regulatory requirements such as those found in Public Access Defibrillation (PAD) programs.

Course length: is 4 hours with a 15 minute break

Presentation Format: The course is instructor led but video based with active hands-on participation. 

Student Materials:  Each student receives a Heartsaver AED Workbook with student CD and skills reminder booklets.

Course Completion Card: Successfully completed students receive a Heartsaver AED Course Completion Card which requires renewal 2 years from date of course.

Course Fee:  $$50.00 per student. Groups can be invoiced after the course has been presented. Currently there are no discounts for renewing students.

Attendance Requirements:  A minimum of 8 students is required for a course presented at a location within San Diego County. A maximum of 20-24 students per each class is required in order to provide the best learning opportunity for all participating.

Heartsaver First Aid 0101

The Heartsaver First Aid Course teaches how to manage illness and injuries in the first few minutes until professional help arrives. Course content includes General Principles of First Aid, Medical Emergencies, Injury Emergencies, and Environmental Emergencies.  It is intended for those who have a duty to respond to First Aid emergencies because of job responsibilities or a regulatory requirements. 

Course length:  is 3 hours with a 10-15 minute break

Presentation Format:  The course is instructor led but video based with active hands-on participation.

Student Materials:  Each student receives a Heartsaver First Aid Workbook with student CD and skills reminder booklets.

Course Completion Card:  Students who complete this course will receive a Heartsaver First Aid Course Completion Card which requires renewal in 2 years from date of course.

Course Fee:  $50.00 per student.  Groups can be invoiced after the course has been presented. Currently there are no discounts for renewing students.

Attendance Requirements:  A minimum of 8 students is required for a course presented at a location within San Diego County. Class size is limited to 24 students to provide the best learning opportunity for all participating.

Heartsaver CPR & AED Online Part 1 , 0102

This new web-based course offers a flexible, time saving option for workplaces that need to provide safety training.

Course length:  Approximately 2 to 3 hours. This self paced program may be paused and continued at anytime.

Presentation Format: The course is a web-based, e-learning program which delivers the cognitive portion of the Heartsaver AED Course from the student’s work station or home computer.

Student Materials: Each student receives an electronic version of the Heartsaver AED Student Workbook implanted onto their computer’s hard drive for later reference.

Course Completion: Upon completion of Part 1, the student may print a certificate which allows admission to a skills practice and exam session (Heartsaver CPR & AED Online Part 2) scheduled with an instructor.

Course Fee: $25.00 per student. Payment must be received prior to providing the individual online pass-code.

It is intended for those who have a duty to respond to both first aid and cardiac emergencies because of job responsibilities (such as corporate safety teams) or regulatory requirements such as those found in Public Access Defibrillation (PAD) Programs.

Course length:  Is approximately 8 hours total with 2- 10 minute breaks and an hour lunch break.

Presentation Format:  The course is instructor led but, video based with active hands-on participation.

Student Materials:  Each student receives a Heartsaver First Aid with CPR & AED Workbook (includes student CD and skill reminder booklets).

Course Completion Card:  Successfully completed students receive a Heartsaver First Aid with CPR & AED Course Completion Card which requires renewal 2 years from date of course.

Course Fee:  $65.00 per student. Groups can be invoiced after the course has been presented.  Currently there are no discounts for renewing students.

Course length:  Approximately 20 to 25 minutes per student.

Presentation Format:  The skills session is instructor led. Students must present the instructor an Online Part 1 Course Completion Certificate to allow admission to the Part 2 session.

Student Materials:  Each student receives a Basic Life Support for Healthcare Providers Student Manual with BLS-HCP Student CD.

Course Completion Card: Students who complete this course will receive a BLS for Healthcare Providers Course Completion Card which requires renewal in 2 years from date of course.

Course Fee: $25.00 per student. Groups can be invoiced after the course has been presented. Currently there are no discounts for renewing students.

Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers Renewal 0107

The Heartsaver Child and Infant CPR Course teaches CPR and relief of choking in children and infants. It is intended for those who have a duty to respond to a cardiac emergency involving children and infants because of job responsibilities or regulatory requirements (such as school teachers or day care employees).

Course length:  3 hours with a 10 to 15 minute break

Presentation Format:  The course is instructor led but, video based with active hands-on participation.

Student Materials:  Each student receives a Heartsaver CPR Workbook with student CD and skill reminder booklets.

Course Completion Card:  Successfully completed students receive a Heartsaver CPR Course Completion Card for child and infant CPR which requires renewal 2 years from date of course.

Heartsaver Pediatric First Aid 0108

The Heartsaver Pediatric First Aid Course teaches how to manage illness and injuries in a child in the first few minutes until professional help arrives. Topics include First Aid Basics, Medical Emergencies, Injury Emergencies, and Environmental Emergencies. It is intended for those involved in childcare who have a duty to respond to a first aid emergency because of job responsibilities or regulatory requirements (such as child care workers, teachers, foster care workers, camp counselors, youth organizations, and coaches for children’s sports organizations).

Course length:  4 hours with a 15 minute break

Presentation Format:  The course is instructor led but, video based with active hands-on participation.

Instructor Candidate Materials: Each student receives a Heartsaver Pediatric First Aid Student Workbook with student CD and skill reminder booklets.

Course Completion Card:  Successfully completed students receive a Heartsaver Pediatric First Aid Card which requires renewal 2 years from date of course.

Course Fee:  $50.00 per student. Groups can be invoiced after the course has been presented. Currently there are no discounts for renewing students.

San Diego Project Heart Beet Refresher Course 0109

The San Diego Project Heart Beat Refresher Course covers the use of an Automatic External Defibrillator (AED), any changes or updates to the American Heart Association (AHA) Guidelines, a review of the state regulatory requirements for Public Access Defibrillation (PAD) programs, information on recent AED deployments and the deployment procedure.

This Course is intended for those who are part of a PAD program managed by San Diego Project Heart Beat and received their initial or renewal AHA training approximately 1 year prior. 

Course length:  2 hours.

Presentation Format:  The course is presented by a San Diego Project Heart Beat Training Center Faculty Member.  It is primarily video based with some active participation.

Student Materials:  Handout information regarding the PAD program.

Course Completion Card:  None, this is not a credentialed course.

Course Fee:  $20.00 per student if < 12 students, $15.00 per student if > 12 students attend.

Attendance Requirements:  A minimum of 8 students is required for a course to be presented at a location within San Diego County. There is no maximum number of students for this course.

Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers 0110

The BLS for Healthcare Providers Course covers core material such as adult and pediatric CPR (including two-rescuer scenarios and use of the bag mask), foreign-body airway obstruction, and AED use. It is intended for healthcare providers such as EMS personnel, physician assistants, doctors, dentist, nurses, and respiratory therapist who must have a credential (Course Completion Card) documenting successful completion of a CPR course.

Course length: Approximately 8 hours with 2-10 minute breaks and an hour lunch break.

Presentation Format: The course is instructor led but, video based with active hands-on participation.

Student Materials: Each student receives a Basic Life Support for Healthcare Providers Student Manual with BLS-HCP Student CD.

Course Completion Card: Successfully completed students receive a BLS for Healthcare Providers Course Completion Card which requires renewal 2 years from date of course.

Course Fee: $65.00 per student.

Attendance Requirements:
A minimum of 8 students is required is required for a course presented at a location with San Diego County. A maximum of 20 -24 students per class is required in order to provide the best learning environment.

This is a convenient online alternative for renewing the Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers Course.

Course length: Approximately 2 to 3 hours. This self-paced program may be paused and continued anytime.

Presentation Format: The course is a web-based, e-learning program which delivers the cognitive portion of the BLS for HCP Renewal Course from the student’s work station or home computer.

Student Materials: Each student receives an electronic version of the BLS for HCP Student Manual imprinted onto their computer’s hard drive for later reference.

Course Completion: Upon completion of Part 1, the student may print a certificate which allows admission to a HCP skills practice and exam session (BLS for Healthcare Provider Online Renewal Part 2) with an instructor.

Course Fee: $25.00 per student. Payment must be received prior to providing the individual pass-code.

Presentation Format: The HCP skills session is instructor led. Students must present instructor a BLS for HCP Online Renewal Part 1 Course Completion Certificate to allow admission to the Part 2 session.

Course Completion Card: Students who complete Part 2 will receive a Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Provider Course Completion Card which requires renewal 2 years from date of course.

Course Fee: $25.00 per student. Groups can be invoiced after the course has been presented. Currently there are no discounts for renewing students.

AHA Core Instructor Course 0114

This flexible , self-directed course provides the foundation for teaching American Heart Association (AHA) ECC Courses.

Course length: Approximately 2 hours. This self-paced program can be paused and continued anytime.

Presentation Format: The Core Instructor Course is provided through a CD-ROM and workbook.

Course Completion: Upon completion a student can print a certificate which allows admission to a Basic Life Support (BLS) Instructor Course.

Course Fee:
$30.00 per student.

Basic Life Support (BLS) Instructor 0115

The Basic Life Support Instructor Course covers the core material that is taught in a BLS course. The pre-requisite for this course is current BLS for Healthcare Provider status and completion of the American Heart Association Core Instructor Course. This course is intended for those who would like to teach CPR and AED use to both the community (Heartsaver Courses) or to Healthcare Professionals.

Course length: 16 hours (usually in 2- 8 hour days and includes instructor orientation to the San Diego Project Heart Beat Training Center). This course is offered semi-annually (October and April).

Presentation Format: The BLS Instructor Course is led by a Training Center Faculty member.

Instructor Candidate Materials: Each Instructor Candidate will receive a BLS and Heartsaver Instructor Manual.

Course Completion Card: Successfully completed candidates will receive a BLS Instructor Course Completion Card which requires renewal 2 years from date of course.

Course Fee: $175.00 per instructor candidate. Payment is required prior to start of the course.

Attendance Requirements: A minimum of 4 (pre-paid) instructor candidates is required to present the BLS Instructor course.

Introduction to AEDs 0117

The Introduction to Automatic External Defibrillators (AEDs) is not a course but a presentation designed to create awareness to a group within a business or organization that has a Public Access Defibrillation (PAD) program in place or is considering one.

Presentation length: Approximately 1 hour.

Presentation Format: Given by a member of the San Diego Project Heart Beat Team with video based demonstration of AED use.

Presentation Fee: A flat fee of $100.00 is charged for 1 to 25 attendees, $150.00 for 26-50 attendees.

Attendance Requirements: There are no attendance requirements for this presentation.
